Dellbuntu machines, now with no extended warranty.
Posted by rt under UncategorizedIs this AWESOME? [ \Y/ or N ]
When the Dell/Ubuntu machines were announced, it was possible to extend the default warranty to 2-4 years as well as adding “CompleteCare” accidental breakage protection. These options have since been quietly removed from all Ubuntu systems though remain on the Vista ones.
I was going to buy one of these, but no longer.

Whoa Keanu, you have a blog?

Listen, smartypan3ts… I’ve update my blawgue a hell of a lot more often than youse, and that’s true even though it’s been a couple of months.

Dude, you realize this is YOUR fault. Once they found out the YOU, Ryan Thiessen, THE GREAT DESTROYER OF LAPTOPS, was going to buy one, they had no choice but to remove extended warranty coverage.
As an aside, has Dell been asked about this? It’s possible that company has some punk at the wheel of their website and who possibly made a mistake in whatever giant and goofy-ass CMS they’re using. I know that this is possible. Trust me :)

geek: yes, I asked their online support about the change and they indicated the change was intentional. Regardless, the digg story hit FP so now they have a decent chance of addressing this one way or the other.

Well, it’s good to know that the story was checked first. Of course, call/chat centers are usually the last places to find out why or when a change has been made, but you’ve made far more effort than most would.
