I went on a trip to the Bahamas for a couple of days for work last month. A few of my colleagues (specifically those who were less hung over one morning) went snorkelling, and one of them took her camera to take some underwater photos of fish while swimming. I was kind of surprised - few people have waterproof housings for digital cameras, I knew my colleague had a nice camera, and I wanted to see how her pictures turned out.
My colleague learned that setting the camera’s autofocus settings to underwater mode isn’t the same as actually having a waterproof camera. Her new Canon was ruined.
